I’d Like To Thank My Grandmother

I want to thank Grandma Helen for the award I am about to receive. I spent many, many summer days with her. She taught me how to bake. I learned how to make butter, homemade breads, pies, etc. She taught me how to make grape jelly, too. Now, I do have a mother. She was much too busy to show us girls how to bake. My little sister was battling cancer at the time. So, I understood Mom’s time was filled with taking care of my sister. My grandmother also taught my sisters and I how to take a piece of material and turn it into a shirt or dress or even a skirt. She could sew my grandfather a shirt in a day’s time. Thank you, Grandma Helen, for teaching me so much. I miss you and I love you! Hope your day is filled with warmth. Laurie Jackson Please feel free to visit my website. Thank you!

I Have Confidence In Me

I have confidence in myself to a point. I know I can write for myself. Is it good enough for people to want to read the stories, though?

It was hard for me to believe in myself in doing ANYTHING. Growing up listening to my dear old dad tell me over and over that I was too stupid to accomplish anything in my life. Guess what, Dad! I accomplished something—I have my Bachelor’s Degree in writing. Are you proud of me? Even if you are not, I am proud of me!

There is always room for improvement in anything anyone does. I feel that I can always write better. I realize that I should write everyday. That alone will help me to improve on my writing.

May your day be filled with laughter and sunshine!

Alex and I are renovating our home so that we can sell it. Thus far, we have gotten rid of the mold, knocked down walls, fixed the flooding in the basement, hung a header and hung drywall. We have painted and turned our home into an open floor plan. Part of our home is at least 100 years old. The other part is newer construction.

Alex and I work pretty well together. We make a wonderful team. (He tells me what to do and I listen—Haha) 🙂 Seriously, though, when we hung the header, I truly thought we were going to die. That thing was HEAVY! Neither one of us has the strength to hold anything over our heads. So, yes, it was quite the experience. We tried to hang a full sheet of drywall on the ceiling. Wow! It was hard! So, after that Alex cut the boards in half to make it easier to hang. It took us two days to get that project done, but we did it!

Oh, did I mention that both of us are scared of heights? Yep, we are! After all we have been through with renovations, we are still talking to each other. We are still happily married. I have learned a lot working with Alex. What’s the point of getting upset? It gets you no where!

Love you, Alexander!

May your day be filled with sunshine and laughter!

God and Politics

There are actually two questions I hate being asked. What is my religion and my opinion of politics.

I don’t like being asked that because I have my opinion just like everyone else has their opinion. I won’t force my religion or faith on anyone. Yes, I believe in God. I am not ashamed to say that. I grew up with going to church every Sunday followed with Sunday School. I enjoyed it. Why do I believe in God? Well, without him I would not be the person I am today. He has always been there for me. He has listened to my prayers. Yes, He may not have answered my prayers the way I thought they should be answered but He came through for me. He had/has better things in store for me. He has given me many, many, many blessings. Even through the tough times, like death, I trusted Him.

I am not a “religious” person but I pray every morning and every night. First thing I say when I open my eyes is thank you to Him. I don’t need a building to talk or pray to God, either. He is everywhere.

My opinion of politics is that I really don’t have one. Am I a Republican or Democratic? I am born and raised an American. Do I like the current president? No and that’s all  I am saying on that subject.

May your day be full of blessings!

Snow, Please Go Away!

Dear Snow,

Please go away! We have had enough of you and your friend, Winter! I think it’s safe to say that we are all tired of Winter. It is time for Spring and rain and flowers and bunnies and trees to bloom and blossom. It’s time for the crickets and all those other bugs to come out. It’s time for the birds to sing and have their babies.

Why do you continue to hang on? We have had our fun in the snow. The ground is sick of being frozen. It’s time to let it thaw out. It’s time for warmer weather and lemonade and shorts and t-shirts. It’s time for camping and laying out under the stars.

It’s Spring’s turn to arrive. It’s time to share. So, Winter and cold air, please go away!

May your day be filled with hot chocolate and marshmallows!
