From Grandma’s Country Kitchen — Cocoa Apple Cake


Tender, moist cake. Keeps well.

3 eggs

2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup (2 sticks) margarine

1/2 cup water

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon allspice

1 cup finely chopped nuts

1/2 chocolate bits

2 apples, cored and grated or finely chopped (2 cups)

1 tablespoon vanilla

Beat together eggs, sugar, margarine and water until fluffy. Sift together flour, cocoa baking soda, cinnamon and allspice. Add to creamed mixture and mix well. Fold in nuts, chocolate, apples and vanilla until evenly distributed. Spoon into greased and floured 10″ loose bottom tube pan.

Bake in 325 degree oven 60 to 70 minutes until cake tests done.  Makes 1 cake, 10 servings.
